Coconut Records
When I first heard their debut album, I figured Coconut Records had to be composed of at least 4 or 5 members. It’s actually a solo-project composed by actor Jason Schwartzman. Although the name doesn’t ring a bell to most right away, he was actually in many popular films including last year’s hit, Funny People. He also used to be a member of Phantom Planet. I found this project on Myspace about two years ago. The first album, Nighttiming, is awesome with it’s variety of styles displayed throughout the tracks. Schwartzman does all the vocals and instruments but on some tracks he features other artists such as Kirsten Dunst, and She & Him’s Zooey Deschanel. Their most popular song, “West Coast” is a really cute love song that makes me want to run back home to California. It’s a good song, but I think the song “Nighttiming” is way underrated in most album reviews.
