I have a lot of goals in life and one of them is to eventually travel the world. I’ve never been to Europe or anywhere across our oceans. I’d love to go to Italy and explore my Italian roots, especially in February. I recently just heard about something called the Ivrea Carnival. Every February, an annual festival is held in Ivrea, Italy where they celebrate the rebellion of a tyrannous leader by re-enacting a medieval battle by hauling oranges at each other. Yes, oranges. I found this hard to believe but I did some research and it’s actually a huge event in Italy. It’s basically a town-wide food fight. How crazy is that? It’s history is similar to the movie Braveheart in that the Count of Italy at the time insisted on sleeping with every new bride. One woman led a revolt against the Count guiding Italy to freedom. Rather than fighting with stones, they use oranges instead since they are a common over-produced fruit. Look at these pictures.

On average they get a crowd over 10,000. Imagine all those people throwing oranges!

I hope I witness this someday.
